Ink wash vs metropolis
|
THEMED "Ink wash vs metropolis", the Second SZ International Ink Wash Paintings Show is being held till January 7, 2001 at the Guan Shanyue Art Gallery.
The event, involving some 300 art works by 140 artists, was aimed to enhance cultural ties between China and foreign participating countries including the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Singapore.
The works, which use ancient art methods, vividly depict urban landscapes and modern life and thoughts. From different angles, they reflect life in a modern metropolis. The paintings display the artists' great passion and artistic talents in creating their own ways to interpret their worlds.
when asked about the significance of the revolution of ink wash painting, Zhao Dazhen, a professor from Chinese Academy of Arts, told reporters that history and facts about ink water paintings proved "to change" is unavoidable. The questions are the range of changing and the way of changing.
Shao explained that ink wash painting can live long in that it creates a peaceful world and brings pure passion and consolation to people. Its effect on people's lives in terms of its aesthetic is unique. However, the language of traditional ink water paintings is still not strong enough, hence it needs to absorb new nutrition. Therefore, the material and images will change to some extent, which might be regarded as kind of betrayal to the traditional ink water paintings, but it is actually a creative inheritance considering its spiritual sphere.
Shenzhen Daily will publish a series of selected works from the exhibition.
