7-day breaks arranged

CHINESE people will have three week-long holidays this year, according to a circular on holiday arrangements issued by the State Council on Tuesday.
Official holidays for the Spring Festival, which will start on January 24 this year, will be three days. Business not normally open at the weekend will open on January 20 and 21-- Saturday and Sunday. Businesses will instead be closed on 29 and 30 so that people get seven consecutive days off, including the next weekend, January 27 and 28.
For International Labour Day (May 1), people will have holiday from May 1 to 7. In a similar way, the weekend of April 28 and 29 will be shifted to May 4 (Friday) and 7 (Monday), according to the circular.
The last week-long holiday this year will be the National Day on October 1, which begins on October 1 and ends on October 7. Businesses will remain open at the weekend, which falls on September 29 and 30.
The circular urges governments, departments and units at all levels to keep a close eye on public security and ensure happy and safe holidays.(Xinhua)
