Network connects Bao'an schools

Han Ximin
BAO'AN District leads other areas in Shenzhen in the application of information technology in its schools, at least five years ahead the nation's target of information modernization. All the schools in the district have their own web pages, and IT courses are offered starting with third-graders of primary schools.
The district's 330 schools are equipped with automation facilities, and office work went paperless last year. Each classroom of Bao'an Middle School is connected with the Internet. This provincial key school has been nominated as a national model school in information education.
Director Liu Xun of the district's education bureau said on Wednesday that the district's priority to education had greatly promoted its education progress.
According to the district's formulation of information modernization, the district's local area network (LAN) will connect with the Internet, China Education Research Network and the district government by 2005. To promote this project, the district government decided last year to appropriate a special fund of 10 million yuan (US$1.2 million) and another eight million yuan as education supervision fund to improve the teaching condition of local schools. Two townships have been chosen as townships strong in education annually since 1999 and each awarded one million yuan.
