Oscars change
|
IF a lesson is to be learned from the various mishaps that occurred in March leading up to the 72nd Academy Awards, it is this: have 55 gold understudies on hand in case their shining counterparts are kidnapped on the way to their most significant public appearance.
"The one big lesson we learned last year is to always have a full set (of Oscars) on hand just in case," said Bruce Davis, executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Davis is referring to the Academy's new plan of always having a spare set of Oscars kept in a locked vault at the Academy's headquarters.
The backup Oscars are one of several changes Academy officials are making for the 73rd Annual Academy Awards to ensure that the type of events that occurred in March -- when stolen statuettes and missing ballots ride in recent memory -- are not repeated.(SD-Agencies)
