Lunar eclipse
NANJING: The total lunar eclipse, the first such phenomenon in the new century, will take place in the early morning of January 10.
The total lunar eclipse can be viewed from the northeastern part of North America, eastern part of South America, the Arctic Ocean, Africa, Europe, Asia, the Oceania, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and western part of the Pacific.
Talks to be delayed
BAGHDAD: The scheduled talks between Iraq and the United Nations this month may be delayed to February, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz said in Baghdad on Saturday.
According to the senior Iraqi official, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has other arrangements until the end of this month and this could lead to a delay in talks between the two sides.
Attack review
WASHINGTON: US Defence Secretary William Cohen will order a new review of accountability for security lapses in the bombing of USS Cole in the Yemeni port of Aden in October, a senior US defence official said on Saturday.
The investigators, who submitted a report last week, had reportedly found that there were key US security lapses in the Persian Gulf region and around the globe. But the report did not assess accountability.
Cubans protest
HAVANA: Some 50,000 Cubans staged on Saturday a mass protest at Mayari, east of Havana, against the US Cuban policy.
The protesters denounced the 40-year US blockade against Cuba and the Cuban Adjustment Law which grants automatically residence in the United States to any Cuban setting foot on US soil.
