Largest U seeks co-operation

IN addition to attending the alumnal gatherings in Shenzhen, Wu Boda, secretary of Jilin University Committee of the CPC, is also seeking more opportunities to co-operate with Shenzhen Municipal Government in personnel training, education and science achievement transformation.
At an interview on Saturday, Wu said the university, after regrouping with four universities in Changchun including Jilin University of Technology, Bethune Medical Science University in last June, is now the largest comprehensive university in China with great strength in mechanic engineering, electronic information and bio-chemistry.
Shenzhen, as the most dynamic economic region in South China, is the first target of co-operation of the newly established university. Wu said the co-operation between the two parties is mutually beneficial for they shared the common ground in high-tech, especially in electronic information bio-engineering and new materials.
The university has a research institute in Shenzhen Virtual University Park, and has been keeping close contacts with local enterprises, Wu said.
During the interview, Wu showed great interest in the University Town which is still under construction.
At a meeting with Vice-Mayor Guo Rongjun, Wu expressed the hope to join the university town as soon as possible to develop education programmes by using its rich teaching resources.
“We are now very strong in research and development, and Shenzhen provides a better investment and transformation environment for science achievements," said Wu, adding the co-operations in education and science of the two parties enjoy bright prospect.
Jilin University, called“education aircraft carrier”, has 268 programmes for postgraduate studies, besides 134 programmes for undergraduate courses. It has strong facilities including four national key laboratories,13 labs under the Ministry of Education and 15 stations for postdoctoral.
