Ancient human DNA extracted
|
SCIENTISTS at a Shanghai laboratory recently announced they have successfully extracted DNA from the bones of ancient people who lived in Shanghai some 4,000 to 5,000 years ago.
The breakthrough signals the move of China's anthropological research from mostly observation-based studies to advanced DNA analysis.
The Shanghai Laboratory on Mole-anthropology and Human Colony Genetics was jointly founded by the Shanghai Historical Museum, reputed for its studies of ancient human remains, and the Genetics Research Institute of Fudan University.
Three years ago, the laboratory recovered DNA from the bones of ancient people living in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region 3,200 years ago, and were able to conclude that Mongolians and Caucasians once lived together.
The laboratory is planning to establish a bone gene database of the ancient Chinese.(Xinhua)
