Qinghua girl publishes NCEE guide
|
DECEMBER saw a new book published on the learning skills for the National College Entrance Exams (NCEE). The 150,000-character book, however, was not written by a group of professionals as usual, but by a 17-year-old girl who walked into Qinghua University only in September 2000.
In March, Li Yan, the young writer, was luckily chosen to further her studies in Qinghua without taking the whole procedures of the NCEE. But she needed to take a comprehensive subject exam that did not even provide an examining syllabus.
The girl did an excellent job in this exam and found herself in love with the comprehensive subject afterwards. As she noticed, the test items were interesting in that they associated with more subjects and related closer to life.
At the same time, the exam puts a higher demand on the ability to apply knowledge comprehensively in the actual solution of problems. Encouraged by her mother, Li decided to tip her followers by writing a book for them.
Starting from June, Li Yan spent two diligent months completing this book, every single word in her handwriting except for the test items in the appendix that were selected by her and copied by her parents.(Li Dan)
