Mangrove specimen gallery to be built
|
SHENZHEN Municipal Government will invest 10 million yuan to build an ecological education base inside the Shenzhen Mangrove Nature Protection Area, which includes a specimen gallery and other ecological education facilities.
The architectural design of the base advocates the concept of ecology and horticulture. Experts from Shanghai Tongji University's Architecture Design Academy and specialists with the protection area have agreed on the design after more than ten rounds of assessments.
Green and blue will be mainly used for the outlook of the building, conveying the ecological idea of sustainable development. The two-story building will catch viewers' imagination for it looks like a falling leave from far away while a bird flopping the wings from a nearby angle.
Traditional Chinese ways of gardening will be incorporated into the design, like winding tails and arch bridges. A floating bridge of 200 metres long will be built, stretching through the mangrove forest to the sea side.
Covering a land of 368 hectares, the protection area is the only one located in the urban area in China and is the ideal habitation for 189 species of birds among which 23 species are on the verge of extinction.
It is said that the education base will be built soon and put into use by the end of next year.(Alfred Zhang)
