Pierre Cardin: fashion a full-fledged art

OVER 200,000 persons throughout the world work under the trademark Pierre Cardin. With 900 licences spread out through 140 countries, the Pierre Cardin trademark is considered one of the most powerful in the world.
And its creator, Pierre Cardin, a man of culture, has been revolutionizing for more than half a century the world of fashion.
The first couturier to:
— bring fashion into the street;
— revolutionize men's style;
— apply a brand licensing system (1960);
— set up operations throughtout the world, notably in Japan, China and Russia.
In 1959, he brings ready-to-wear down into the street showing his models in a Parisian department store. Shocked, the Haute Couture Trade Union revoked his membership. A few years later, however, all the couturies began to imitate him. The magazine “Elle" was to find his Cosmocorps collection so innovative that they decide to entirely photograph it. In just one night, 3,000 photos were taken in their studio by five photographers and a staff of 70.\
Often receiving awards, he remains the most highly decorated coutuier.
Peace ambassador to UNESCO as of 1991, he is unanimously elected in 1992 to the Institut de France. Reigning under the Coupole, he succeeds in having fashion recognized as a full-fledged art.
Here is what Pierre Cardin describes his art:
— The clothing I prefer are those I invent for a life that doesn't yet exist — the world of tomorrow!
— What comes first is the shape, then the matter that expresses the volumes, fluidity and suppleness. Colour is only the final touch.
He is and shall remain a leader with a vision of the future. (SD-Agencies)
