When dream meets tradition
|
IN the times when people advocate diversification, everyone has his own way to interpret vogue. It is a spirit rather than behaviour. Those wearing Nike or going to Disco frequently today are not necessarily regarded as avant-garde any more. The new criteria lie in individuality. In other words, if you like, you can either spend your spare time in a cinema by yourself or wander in the street wearing a mandarin jacket, regardless of what other people will say.
The fashion designers, who are sensitive to changes in people's psycho, express popular thoughts and ideas in their designs. A new trend of non-theme or multi-themes is created and best illustrated with the woman's fashion in winter 2000-2001.
The themes of this season's fashion can be generally defined as a combination of dream and tradition, influenced by the following: the curiosity and desire to break rules; a temptation brought by an unrestrained and passionate lifestyle; inspiration derived from handicrafts and exotic decorations.
The trends can be categorized as:
Female and modern
A new trend has been formed which emphasizes femininity and leisure.
Soft colours and body-conscious lines have been mixed with the original dignified style, making it livelier and more fanciful. The sexy, fashionable and magnificent style comes back.
Local temptation
The hippie style that combines folk appearance and colours largely used in national costumes has aroused general interest throughout the world. This year, the difference results from the adoption of some modern materials and colours. Though there is still a touch of tradition, it absolutely belongs to neo-romanticism and is very fascinating.
Comfortable leisurewear
Leisurewear is designed for weekends or holidays. This season, with high-tech materials being used, the leisurewear puts more emphasis on the wearability than on the extravagant appearance.(Rena Qin)
