Famers reap higher income
|
THE recent drastic adjustment and optimization of the local agricultural structure and products helped increased farmers' income by 14 per cent last year, according to officials with the city's agricultural management department.
In the year 2000, on average each peasant made 9,278 yuan (over US$1,100), one of the highest average incomes in Guangdong Province.
The city's total revenue from agriculture last year was 11.84 billion yuan, representing an eight per cent increase over 1999. It is said that 80 per cent of the farmers' income is generated by township enterprises. (John Woo)
