SZ explores new medicine
|
THE Shenzhen-based National Biochemical Engineering Centre is developing a number of new genetic drugs that promise breakthroughs in the struggle against some diseases.
Since last year, the centre has completed building its research and development base. With a new lab put into service for nurturing transgenic animal cells and transgenic microbes, research in new genetic drugs began. Medicines like ANP, used to treat defective cardiac functions and TAL for hepatitis are all being studied in collaboration with other institutions.
It is predicted that by next year more research projects will be launched. The centre hopes to commercialize its research results in one or two years.
The development centre was built in 1998. Its major function is to feed lab results gathered at the State's key scientific projects to its engineering research centre to turn them into products.
