M (Michael): What do Chinese do during the Chinese Lunar New Year?
(迈克尔) 中国人过年会做些什么？
W (Wang Jun): Well, it is very similar to Christmas. Basically it is the time that families get together and share the festive joy.
(王军) 就好象过圣诞节那样，一家人共聚一堂，共享节日的欢乐。
M: Do you have a big dinner like Christmas dinner?
也有像圣诞大餐那样的丰富晚餐吗？
W: Yes, we usually have a “family reunion dinner" on Lunar New Year's Eve.
有，我们通常在除夕夜吃“团圆饭”。
M: What about the money put in the small red envelopes?
放在红色小信封里的钱是做什么用的呢？
W: It's Red Packet Money. It symbolizes “good luck". Usually only those married give out Red Packets and the singles receive them.
那是象征幸运的红包。通常是由已婚的男女派发给未婚人士。
M: Good. Fortunately I'm still single. How long is the Lunar New Year celebration?
多好啊，幸好我还是独身。新年有多久？
W: It's the first 15 days of the first month in the Lunar Calendar.
农历正月的头十五天。
M: What's the Lunar Calendar?
什么是农历？
W: I'm not sure. It seems very similar to the Western calendar, but it's about one month behind.
我也不太清楚，好象和公历差不多，只是迟了约一个月。
M: So you have two new years to celebrate, right?
那么你们有两个新年要庆祝，是吗？
W: Yes, that's the beauty of living in a mixed culture.
是的，这正是生活在文化交融之中的好处。
