美国的麦克尔·约翰逊因在200米和400米比赛中的优异表现, 获得了今年的世界体育大奖。他200米和400米的最好成绩分别是19.32秒和43.18秒。
Sport/event: 200m, 400m
Date of Birth: September 13, 1967
Personal Best: 200m: 19.32 seconds; 400m: 43.18 seconds
World Records: 200m, 400m
MICHAEL JOHNSON is quite simply one of the greatest athletes on the planet, and one of the best ever.
His place in history was sealed at the Atlanta Olympics, during which he won an unprecedented 200 metres and 400 metres sprint double.
No athlete has ever won both events at the Olympic level, let alone achieving the feat at the same Games.
On September 13, 1967, a star was born in Dallas, Texas. He is Michael Johnson. Michael is the youngest of five children. His parents are Paul and Ruby Johnson. Paul is a truck driver and Ruby is a school teacher.
Michael attended Skyline High School in Texas. He ran track and also played football. His high school coach, Joel Ezar, said he was a statue with wings because he ran so fast.
After graduating from high school, Michael attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. While training for the Olympics, Michael achieved his longtime goal of beating Pietro Mennea's record of 19.72 seconds for the 200m, finishing in 19.66.
When Michael first went to the Olympics, the 200m and the 400m overlapped. He had to decide if he was going to run the 200m or the 400m. Michael was eliminated in the semifinals. After that Michael stated that he would be the first man to ever win both the 200m and the 400m at the same Olympics.
Michael began to train hard. He always runs in his gold coloured track shoes.
Michael Johnson has won a lot of medals and broken a lot of world records. He became the first man to win gold in both the 200m and the 400m in the Olympics. Some of the world records he has set are in the 4x400 relay, the 200, 300 and 400 metres. Michael was the first man to win nine career gold medals at the World Olympics.
“Some have called Michael Johnson a running machine. So perfect, so co-ordinated, so powerful, so efficient... so fast. The truth of the matter is, Michael is not a running machine, but he is about as close as a man can be."(SD-Agencies)
