Some fun English activities
|
Ruth McAllister
ONCE upon a time, there was an English student. She asked everyone the secret of learning oral English. Finally, she realized that she COULD speak English. She just needed to be a brave maiden and open her mouth!
Here are some fun activities to help you speak English.
a. Draw a floor plan of your dream home. Include all the furniture; think about what colours you see. Now, turn to your partner and describe everything!
b. Write down these letters on small squares of paper:
A C E I K M R S T
In a group of three students, and as fast as you can, make as many words as possible with these letters. One student may write them down.
c. And here is a fascinating topic for discussion. If you had three wishes, what would you wish for? What would your best friend or spouse wish for? What about your parents? How are you different and the same?
What are the pros and cons of these topics?
— Owning a computer
— Having a girl/boy friend
— Being brave
— Eating in restaurants
— Being beautiful
— Living with your parents
— Parenthood
— Owning a car
— Having two jobs
d. Answer the following questions:
Could you please give me directions to the train station?
How do I ask my parents for money?
How do I fix a flat tire?
How can I make new friends?
How can I stay healthy?
How can I improve my English?
How do I cook eggs?
e. Try three tantalizing, but terrible, tongue twisters!
1. Have you surfed to the URL of the “Girl with a Curl" who toured the world?
2. Dust is a compact disc's worst enemy.
3. I love lemon aluminum linoleum.
