School fees targeted
|
CHINESE Education supervisors will crack down this year on random school levies on students, Monday's China Daily reported.
Cases of overcharging students are particularly serious in Beijing, Tianjin and other major cities, the newspaper quoted sources with the Ministry of Education as saying.
The ministry said it will launch regular checks among primary and middle schools this year. Those who are found to have overcharged students will be punished, said sources from the ministry's Department for Education Discipline and Supervision.
China's primary and middle schools are not allowed to collect fees because they provide compulsory education programmes. Xinhua
