Empowering buildings with intelligence
|
Liu Fuzhong
WITH the development of computing technologies, erecting computerized smart buildings has become something of a trend in Shenzhen's construction industry. Modern Computer Manufacturer Co Ltd (MCM), a local computer technology and software firm, have come up with a total solution to suit the latest market requirements.
The new system, developed at MCM, is called the Building Computer Control System, and has already been installed in many local highrises.
According to engineers with MCM, the system integrates control functions within a powerful computer. The computer allows the property managers to oversee operation of equipment, lighting and security.
The system requires sophisticated integration of the latest computing, remote control, networking, intelligent recognition and smart card technologies.
The supporting infrastructure for the system is a local area network (LAN), which puts everything online. With powerful routers and gateways, the network system allows the addition of new devices and offers access to the Internet.
Thus living environments which used to be found only in James Bond movies have been actually become reality.
In fact engineers at MCM say modern technology can actually outperform science fiction. But they also say that cost and functionality are important factors to consider. Only systems tailored to customers' special needs have a market.
