In the Mood for Love bar

IF you are a fan of Wang Jiawei, the HK director, or if you want to relive the melancholy gaudiness of 1930s Shanghai, the funkily-named In the Mood for Love Bar might be the place for you.
Across from the Lushan Hotel on Jiangbei Road in Luohu District, the bar features Shanghai nights in old time memories. Waitresses carrying trays quietly move about in changshan slit dresses of different patterns, old-fashioned beauty calendar pictures decorate the walls, and hanging from the ceiling are cylinder-shaped lanterns in dim red and yellow shades. At the centre of the barroom an old-fashioned record player turns slowly, grinding out songs of the old days.
Two small booths are arranged in the same vein, allowing for bosom talks among friends.
"Our customers are also our friends," Miss Zhu, the manager said. "They can order their favourite songs to be played here." Run by three young women, the bar exudes romance and beauty with every detail in design.
The bar serves all kinds of wines, cocktails and snacks at a price acceptable to most young white-collars. For around 30 yuan per person, friends can linger at the bar for a comfortable evening. "We run the bar mostly for fun," Zhu said with a smile.
