Synopsis: Winner of seven Academy Awards, this brilliant drama about domestic life after World War II remains one of the all-time classics of American cinema. The story focuses on three war veterans and their readjustment to civilian life in their Midwestern town of Boone City.
Stevenson returns to work at a bank, only to discover that his new belief doesn't quite mesh with (互相协调) his work as vice-president in charge of small loans. He faces criticism for his decision to trust a man for a loan based on his war-trained instincts. He wishes to restore the natural order of the town based on his recent re-education in human natures.
Fred Derry and his wife married amid the confusion in war time and now discover that they made the wrong choice. His wife, a frivolous (轻浮的) woman, tries to get him to show off his accomplishments in the war, but Fred wants people to accept him as he is, not as a war hero.
The third lead man, Homer Parrish, must overcome the changes he faces without hands. He doesn't want anyone to treat him differently. But Wilma's understanding and response to how he has changed physically but without losing the traits for which she loves him finally help him to and renew himself.
