fig 无花果
A fig is a soft, sweet fruit full of small seeds. Figs are often eaten dried, but they can also be eaten fresh off the tree. Have you ever tried them?
Strangely, the word "fig" in the following expressions (短语) stands for something of little value (微不足道). "I don't give a fig" means "I don't care at all"; "not worth a fig" means "worthless". Look at these two example:
"I don't give a fig whether others like it; I'll do it anyway."
"A liar's promise (撒谎者的诺言) is not worth a fig."(SD-Agencies)
