Mao Thought takes to the web
|
THE Jin Niu Group, a once-struggling state-owned enterprise (SOE) in Xingtai, Hebei Province, is celebrating its return to profitability by creating a website devoted to what it believes is the source of it's turnaround: Mao Zedong Thought.
The site (www.mzdthought.com), which was formally launched on December 23 -- the day before what would have been Mao's 107th birthday -- by Mao Xingyu, grandson of the late leader. It is hosted by the China Jin Niu Mao Zedong Thoughts Research Association, and offers information on subjects like Thought Theory, Military Thought, Leader's Glamour, Family Today, World Comment, Studying Mao's Works, and Poetry Appreciation.
The story began in 1992, when a man named Wang Changling took charge of the group, which at the time was simply the Xingtai Glass Factory. Back then, the factory was on the verge of collapse, and was among the most debt-ridden firms in the city. But Wang managed to turn the company around, clearing up all debts within three years. In 2000, the profit tax paid by the factory reached at 65,000,000RMB ( US$7,500,000), making it the top glass producer in China.
During his reform, Wang Changling relied on what he called the Boosting Enterprise Strategy, which uses Mao Thought to make full use of policies and law to create a modern enterprise system. According to Wang, Mao Thought made China a successful nation, so it made sense to apply it to an enterprise as well
"Advocating Mao Zedong Thought solves the root problems of whom to depend on for operating an enterprise, for whom to operate an enterprise, and for whom to make an enterprise a success," he explains.
