JODIE FOSTER has ankled presidency of the Cannes Intl Film Festival jury for a plum movie role, festival organizers said on Sunday.
The actress has stepped in to replace Nicole Kidman in "The Panic Room", follwing Kidman's withdrawal due to a knee injury two weeks into shooting.
In France, sources said Foster's pulling out was a major headache for festival president Gilles Jacob and his team who are in the process of putting together the 12-member jury for the festival on May 9 to 20.
"They think it's a terrible nuisance," the source said.
Officially, though, the festival was gracious about her quitting. In a communique on Sunday, Jacob said: "The regrets she expressed are equalled by our disappointment but anyone can understand that for an actress, her profession comes first." He wished her "good luck".
Foster said she was giving up the "prestigious jury presidency" with a "heavy heart".
"I hope with all my heart that it is only a postponement and that, if the festival honours me with another request, I will one day become president of a festival to which I owe so much."(SD-Agencies)
