Taipei mayor visits HK
|
TAIPEI Mayor Ma Ying-jeou and his delegation arrived in Hong Kong yesterday morning for a four-day visit.
Invited by the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute (HKPRI), Ma will attend the fifth anniversary of the HKPRI and the Two-City Forum organized by the HKPRI and the Taiwan Research Institute.
Upon his arrival in Hong Kong, Ma said at a press briefing that he was pleased to visit Hong Kong to exchange views with Hong Kong experts on urban development.
When he visited Hong Kong two years ago, he reached an agreement with the HKPRI to launch the Hong Kong-Taipei Two-City Forum, which is aimed at putting forward progress of both cities through exchanges, he said.
Ma said the first Two-City Forum held in Taipei last year was a very successful one.
He expressed the hope that the Taipei delegation members will further exchange views with scholars and experts in Hong Kong on issues of urban planning and transportation, and the exchanges programmes can be even expanded to the fields of culture and education.
A sound relationship between Taipei and Hong Kong will be much helpful to citizens of both cities, he said.
Ma revealed he is expected to meet Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa tomorrow.
The 40-member delegation comes from the Taipei city authorities of urban development, transportation, civil affairs and finance as well as Taiwan local media.(Xinhua)
