Body parts of bar hostess found
|
JAPANESE police found the body of murdered British woman Lucie Blackman after analyzing the pattern of mobile telephone calls made from the area by an alleged rapist, a report said yesterday.
A day after police confirmed the dismembered remains of a body found in a seaside cave were those of Blackman, the Yomiuri Shimbun said investigators were led to the site by a seven-hour pause in calls made from the vicinity by Joji Obara.
They checked records of calls made by Obara, a 48-year-old property developer who has been charged with six counts of rape, on the night of July 3, two days after the British bar hostess disappeared.
Blackman's remains were found on Friday in a beach cave at the town of Misaki in the Miura region, at the mouth of Tokyo Bay.
The confirmation by police brought to a sad end an anguished wait for her family.
The blonde English woman's head was found encased in a cement block. Police had discovered a shovel caked with cement near the cave, the Asahi Shimbun said yesterday.
Blackman disappeared after telling her roommate she was going on a day-trip to the Chiba coast, east of Tokyo, with an unidentified man on July 1.
She had arrived in Japan in May and found work as a bar hostess in the Roppongi night-life area of Tokyo.
Police said DNA tests of the remains would continue, and were unable to confirm immediately when and how Blackman died.
Her father Tim Blackman praised the police inquiry as "first rate", but demanded that the owners of hostess bars such as the one where his daughter worked clean up their act.(SD-Agencies)
