Taiwan school to be built in Shanghai
|
THE Taipei authorities announced they are considering helping to set up a school in Shanghai for children of Taiwanese businessmen, according to sources close to the Taipei authorities.
Taipei Vice-Mayor Pai Hsiu-hsiung, who is scheduled to take part in a Taipei-Shanghai city forum slated for late February in Shanghai, will discuss the issue with the Shanghai authorities, according to Taipei municipal sources.
A large number of Taiwan businessmen in Shanghai have repeatedly sought help from the Taipei city for the establishment of a school for their children there.
During a January meeting between Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou and Shanghai Vice-Mayor Feng Guoqin in Taipei, some Taiwan businessmen voiced such a hope, with Ma promising to help promote the goal.
Following the lead set by the "School for Taiwan Businessmen's Children in Dongguan", a city in Guangdong Province, the planned school will comprise a kindergarten, an elementary school and a junior high school, organizers said, adding that both teaching materials and staff will come from Taiwan and that students can freely transfer to other schools after returning to Taiwan.
