CHIEF Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee-hwa yesterday announced the appointment of Donald Tsang, financial secretary, as HKSAR's new secretary for administration, the SAR's top civil servant.
Tsang, a 34-year veteran of the civil service, will succeed outgoing Secretary for Administration Anson Chan, who will retire in April this year.
Tung at the same time announced the appointment of investment banker Antony Leung, 49, a member of Tung's cabinet, the Executive Council, to replace Tsang as finance secretary.
With Tsang and Leung standing next to him, Tung said he was “delighted" that the Central Government had accepted his nominations to the two most senior posts in the government.
Tung praised Tsang for overcoming the Asian financial crisis in 1997.
Tsang, 56, pledged to make Hong Kong “a unique showcase to the unique concept" of the “one country, two systems" policy.(SD-Xinhua)
