Sino-Canadian school comes to town
|
THE government of Nanshan District has clinched a deal with a Canadian firm to jointly establish a high school in the district, officials said yesterday.
This deal was among the 200-plus agreements signed in China by the “Team Canada” delegation led by Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
The school will become the second Sino-Canadian school in China. The first one was founded four years ago in Beijing.
The district government will construct the school buildings with an investment of 20 million yuan (US$2.4 million), while the Canadians will invest five million yuan in teaching equipment and assign teachers. The Canadian side will have autonomy in running the school while the Chinese Government will own it.
Upon graduation, students will earn both Chinese and Canadian diplomas and they may then move on to either Chinese or Canadian universities.
The school will occupy an area of 24,000 square metres. It will begin enrolment this autumn.(Alfred Zhang)
