Spin doctor arrives in SZ

TONY BAKER, director of the media centre for the Nations in Bloom competition, is once again in SZ, which won first place in the competition held in Washington DC last December.
He hopes to be able to help the city raise its profile in the Western world.
“As a young city with a huge achievement you have achieved in only 20 years, Shenzhen is little known in the West," Baker said.
He suggested that with SZ winning the Nations in Bloom as a springboard, timing is right for SZ to fight back to correct the West's mistrust of China. “Today we hope to begin a process of correcting that (prejudice) by telling our own people of your success," Baker said.
He mapped a publicity campaign to be conducted in partnership with the city, urging SZ to move forward in trumpeting its success to create a positive image of itself abroad.
One source of good publicity may arrive in November, when the finals of this year's Nations in Bloom competition will be held in SZ.
