LESS than a week after the Nanshan District Education Bureau (NDEB) announced its agreement with Canada on the establishment of the second Sino-Canadian school in China, the bureau has already received hundreds of calls from parents and students inquiring about the school, as the NDEB told Shenzhen Daily.
The most common inquiries concern enrolment requirements and tuition fees.
According to the NDEB, all students who are official Shenzhen residents are qualified applicants, though the school designed mainly for students residing in Nanshan District. Applicants should attend citywide unified examinations, and will be admitted on the basis of competitive selection according to their test results. There will be six classes, with room for over 200 students, at the senior one level starting in September.
Though the tuition fee has not yet been finalized, it is expected to be a little more than 32,000 yuan (US$3,878) per year. This is an estimate, though, based on the charges of the first Sino-Canadian school which is located in Beijing, according to the officials of the NDEB.
The construction of school buildings began last year and will be completed soon, despite the fact that the agreement was finalized only a week ago. The school is located opposite the headquarters of the Nanshan District Government and covers an area of 24,000 square metres.
