SZ peace lovers praised

SHENZHENERS Gu Yong and Luo Zhongyao received a letter of commendation from the United Nations in recognition of a gift they earlier presented to the global body to mark the first anniversary of the International Peace Culture Year, they told Shenzhen Daily yesterday.
Their gift was a song entitled The Light of Peace, which they wrote themselves. The song expressed their wishes for permanent world peace and was sent to the UN on the last day of 2000.
The letter of commendation, which was written by Hasan Ferdous, chief of the Public Inquiries Unit on behalf of the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, expressed the appreciation of the UN chief and his colleagues.
In the letter Hasan Ferdous wrote: “It is very generous of you to share your song with us… Surely no one committed to the goal of world peace can fail to be moved by the lyrics of your song.”
Gu Yong said that the letter is a great encouragement to them. “It has been our long-cherished dream to do something to appeal for world peace. Writing the song was just our first step, and the commendation from the secretary-general gave us the confidence to continue our effort,” Gu said.
Their next step is to publish the song on the Internet and invite foreign singers to perform the English version of the song. “The message of peace should be spread around the world,” Gu said. Both Gu and Luo are planning to make a VCD of the song to spread their peaceful message.
