Social insurance to expand
|
MORE than 95 per cent of the city's population will be covered by various forms of social insurance by 2005, including over 2.5 million labourers.
The target was put forward at a meeting on the subject on Wednesday.
According to SZ's Mayor Yu Youjun, another one million-plus people will be covered by pension insurance while over 700,000 will receive medical insurance.
He pointed out that setting up a sound social insurance system is an important part of the city's goal of taking the lead in the nation to achieve modernization.
It is released that last year, the number of people covered by pension funds reached 1.2785 million. Some 828,400 people bought medical insurance while 2.4 million bought industrial injury insurance, which brought the total amount of social insurance funds to 3.13 billion yuan in SZ last year.
