Import of British meat banned
BEIJING: China has imposed a ban on meat imports from Britain amid concerns over the possible spread of foot-and-month disease, State media said on Friday.
More investment
BEIJING: The vast underdeveloped central and western regions of China are expected to receive more capital investment than ever this year from the Central Government to boost their capacity for sustainable development, according to the State Development Planning Commission.
Bird hospital
CHANGSHA: China's first specialized hospital for wild birds was put into operation on Saturday in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.
The hospital, built at a cost of over 200,000 yuan (US$24,000), has eight bird-care experts and advanced medical facilities.
China currently has over 1,200 species of birds.
Visa-free tourists arrive
HAIKOU: Organized by NIC travel agency of the Republic of Korea (ROK), 21 ROK tourists, with valid ordinary ID documents, were smoothly led out of the Phoenix International Airport in Sanya of Hainan Province by representatives of the local Chinese travel agency early on Thursday morning.
They are the first group of visa-free tourists Hainan has received since the island province announced early this year that members of tourist groups from 21 countries will be given visa-free treatment for tours on the island within 15 days.
Ancient tombs
CHANGSHA: A large group of tombs dating back more than 2,000 years have been found at a construction site of a gym in downtown Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.
