Chilly price war declared

ALL the major air-conditioner makers in China oppose price cutting but they also predict that the controversial price war will continue over the next few years, the Guangzhou Daily reported on Monday.
Chief executives from China's 10 major air-conditioner manufacturers gathered for the first time in years in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province on Monday attend a seminar sponsored by the Guangzhou Daily to discuss the future development of China's air-conditioning industry.
Price issue was the focus of the whole discussion, the paper said. A widely held view is that there is still room for price cutting and it is necessary to make reasonable price consolidation. The fact that there are still newcomers entering the air-conditioning market testifies to this, the executives said.
However, participants of the seminar questioned the way to gain market share by lowering prices. They argued that profits and returns to the investors come before market shares.
Chen Xiaoshi, chairman of Hualing Group, warned that it is dangerous to try to make a profit by cutting price. Technology, product quality and after-sale service are the keys to success, Chen said.(SD News)
