Lei Feng's spirit lives on
|
IN March, one frequently hears a name that is synonymous with duty and sacrifice. That name is Lei Feng.
Lei Feng demonstrated to others how one can offer his best service within his own capacity. He did his best to help others because he wanted to bring people happiness.
This altruist spirit has been displayed in different ways since Lei's day. But I am most impressed by local volunteer workers who go to poor areas to provide education and economic development.
I saw on television smiles on young faces in the villages whose names I had never heard of. I feel proud of those young volunteers and the great deeds they have accomplished.
Probably those young volunteers come from wealthy families. They must give up their comfortable lives for a year and challenge themselves with all the difficulties they might encounter in those small villages.
Yet I believe they all come home stronger people.
To me they are like shining stars. They tell people with their deeds that young people care other things besides their careers and personal lives.
Lei Feng is always commemorated at this time of the year. Yet those young volunteers also deserve praise.
