SHENZHEN will pitch in to speed up construction of two logistic parks in Sungang, Luohu District, and Pinghu Township, Longgang District, to develop special markets and distribution services.
The logistic parks will cover special markets such as family decoration materials, cars and car parts, and medicine and medical facilities.
The distribution centre in Pinghu will be a co-operative wholesale centre for small and medium-sized retailers.
At a meeting yesterday on the future development of the city's commerce, Vice-Mayor Wang Suiming encouraged local enterprises with a competitive edge in marketing and management to expand operations in nearby and inland regions.
"It is time for some local enterprises which have established complete marketing and managerial mechanisms, to expand outside Shenzhen," said Wang, adding that the expansion is also needed to survive the fierce competition expected to hit China when it enters the WTO.
It was told Shenzhen's retail business made a qualitative leap during the Ninth Five-Year Plan (1996-2000), with sales volume hitting 53.8 billion yuan last year, double the 1995 total. The annual average increase rate for the period is estimated to be around 15.7 per cent.
The city owns a network of 80,000 commercial establishments with a total operation area of five million sqms. The number of large shopping centres with 10,000 sqm or above is higher here than anywhere else in Guangdong Province. Vanguard, a local retail giant, was ranked first in Guangdong Province in terms of sales profits.
