Culture studies hot
|
DESPITE having often hectic lives filled with work, friends and family, many female white-collar workers in Shenzhen still manage to find the time for cultural studies, believing it can improve their lives.
"We have had over 600 students in culture, arts, music, calligraphy, flower arrangement and other subjects in the past three years," said Miss Sun, who is in charge of a local training centre for women. "Most of them became more confident after they finished their studies."
Xia Yu, a local IT white-collar, registered for a traditional Chinese painting course, although she know almost nothing about it. "I came out of curiosity, and I hope it can relieve the pressure of my daily work," she said.
Many females sign up for the training not to establish themselves in a certain area, but to realize their childhood dreams.\
"Most of the trainees are aged between 30 and 40," said Mr Wang of a local music centre, "They prefer traditional Chinese instruments like the Zheng or the flute."
Other popular subjects include pottery, ballet, and yoga.(Windy Shao)
