YOU don't have to go to the grandest places to eat well, nor the cheapest to eat simplest. In Shenzhen, you can find contentment at the Greenery of the Century Plaza Hotel on Renmin Road South, a decent eatery which serves up both sublime food and a cozy environment.
Stepping into the Greenery, which is located in the hotel's basement, is a soothing experience, with soft music, a smiling staff and a tempting array of dishes.
The restaurant offers a buffet dinner with over 200 varieties of Chinese and Western delicacies, such as fresh salmon from Norway; oysters from Scotland; prime beef from the United States; tuna and octopus from Japan; and Arctic shellfish from Canada. They are served either raw and cold, or cooked fresh by experienced chefs from Hong Kong. And for dessert there is a rich variety of cakes and fruits including watermelon, fresh dates, pears and strawberries.
After getting their food, customers can then comfortably sit down and enjoy the delicacies to the accompaniment of live music: Each night, the Greenery offers live music, with performers playing a violin, saxophone, or a zheng (a 21- or 25-string plucked instrument in some ways similar to the zither). All this helps make the meal there a relaxing, happy and enjoyable experience.
But the enjoyment does not end there. Looking out the French window, diners can gaze at the lush patches of trees and grasses surrounding the restaurant or just watch the street life outside.
There is also a children's playground, set amid greenery and featuring such facilities as a swing, rocking horse and slide.
So if you want to enjoy a wide selection of delicious Chinese and Western dishes in a cozy environment, head to the Greenery.
