FBI probing plot to kidnap Russell Crowe
|
ACTOR Russell Crowe, the Oscar-nominated star of ``Gladiator'' who plays a freelance kidnap-hostage negotiator in his latest film ``Proof of Life'', has become the target of a real-life abduction plot, the FBI said on Tuesday.
An FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles declined to give details, but said federal agents are investigating a plot to kidnap the New Zealand-born movie star.
The FBI normally declines to comment on pending investigations, but decided to make an exception in this case because of media reports surfacing in recent days.
Crowe's publicist, Robin Baum, said, ``We're aware of (the plot) and the FBI has been helpful in guiding us, and he (Crowe) has taken the necessary security precautions.''
The syndicated TV show ``Entertainment Tonight'' reported that Crowe, 36, was informed of the plot by the FBI prior to the Golden Globe Awards and attended the January 21 ceremony flanked by FBI agents dressed in tuxedos.
