SIR--Some time in September last year, I by chance heard about the English Salon hosted by Shenzhen Daily from a friend, who commended it as a wonderful place for English learners. Curious, I came on a Wednesday night and quickly became fond of the salon. I've since gone every week, and after six months I've found that not only I've made great progress in speaking and listening skills, but I have also gained the confidence in communicating. I am so delighted, I want to express my thanks.
It is so good that you manage to bring so many foreigners to give speeches on various topics. It gives me the chance to practise my listening skills. I find great pleasure in listening to people speaking in genuine accents. I have also practised my oral English by speaking with other participants. Moreover, I have learned a lot about life in Western countries, like the culture, customs and other interesting aspects.
Furthermore, I find the English Salon a good place to make friends. I've met lots of young people there who can share common ideas with me, and with whom I can practise my English and become friends.
