Harry's Bar now a national treasure

夕日酒吧成为国家级珍宝
HARRY'S Bar in Venice, whose regulars have included royalty, intellectuals and writers, is to become a national monument.
The move by Italy's Fine Arts and Culture Ministry to protect the birthplace of the Bellini cocktail (one part peach juice, two of champagne) and its furnishings and fittings is welcome news for Arrigo Cipirani, son of the bar's founder, Giuseppe.
It means that Harry's owner cannot be evicted(逐出), as was threatened four years ago when Mr Cipriani was served with a notice to quit by his landlady. Mr Cipriani, whose father started the bar in 1931, said at the time that his eviction would have meant probable closure and the loss of 75 jobs.
After being told of the decision, Mr Cipriani, 69, a former lawyer who quit his practice above the bar after nearly 45 years to provide extra seating, said he was overjoyed.
The bar was a success from the outset and Ernest Hemingway wrote part of his novel Across the River and Into the Trees there. Truman Capote also wrote there and other customers have included John Dos Passos, Woody Allen, Arturo Toscanini and Charlie Chaplin(查利·卓别林).
