Haircut from runways
|
THE overall look for hair for spring/summer 2001 remains fairly restrained and ladylike, although elements of punk and 80s New Wave styles are rapidly encroaching on this.
There's only one trendy haircut to emerge from the runways so far: the tortured, chopped-up bob. This look is happening at several lengths--from just below the chin to shoulder length.
And obvious blonde, in a similar shade to Madonna's new tone, is the favoured colour.
The 80s influence is obvious, with stylists choosing various futuristic versions of 80s hairdos. For instance, a style of side parted and wedged fringe was seen at all the hot labels--Gucci, Balenciaga, YSL and Marc Jacobs among them. In general side parts seemed to be favoured, whether models wore it in a retro 40s style or a New Wave 80s style.
Several designers also included a kind of a futuristic quiff when they did their models' longer hair. Pony tails, especially when worn with a side part, are still popular too.
There was only one style obviously missing from the runways this season: big, glamorous hair. Don't do it--because nobody else does.
On the whole hair is slick, straight and close to the head; relatively restrained with a few ragged, punky chops for 80s emphasis.(SD-Agencies)
