Molly Stern--a new arrival
|
RENAISSANCE woman Molly Stern, a 28-year-old new arrival on the fashion stage, doesn't think of herself as a fashion designer, and her presentation of her m.r.s.line is an art installation more than a fashion show.
She's been making her hand-sewn couture pieces for only a year for medieval, punk-inspired rock stars. All the stitching is on the outside. It all started as a sexy T-shirt thing, but evolved into her quirky feminine take on couture.
But many celebrities, including Gisele Bundchen the supermodel, pop singer Britney Spears and movie star Milla Jovovich, often show up in the handmade couture creations by Molly Stern. She is making big bucks rocking out old tees and selling them to celebrities like Courtney Love for US$200.
Quite a few of her notable customers knew her long before she chose to become a designer. Molly used to be a makeup artist and she is included in the listings of Resource Advantage sourcebook for photography and film production in New York. From time to time she went with her favourite bands on their tour performances and worked as a makeup expert in the team. When Molly co-operated with the band Courtney Loves, an idea occured to her that she should start to make hand sewn clothes. And the fact is, she succeeded.
Though her designs are sold like hot dogs to some extent because of her works' popularity among celebrities, Molly has a fan club of her own, who are interested in her design only. She always believes that only one try for each style is the secret to her success.
