A NEW logistics centre called the Shenzhen Nil Integrated Logistics Development Co Ltd was inaugurated on Monday.
Advanced logistics information systems, architectural design and management expertise provided by Fujutsu Co Ltd of Japan have been integrated into the new centre, development of which was designated one of "China's model programmes of high-tech industry in 1999".
In February 1999, China and Japan signed an agreement on co-operating on six computerization projects covering logistics, distant education, agriculture information, remote medical treatment, prevention of natural disasters and fire, environment and flood monitoring. As part of this logistics computerization programme, SZ was targeted as the city for the logistics component.
According to Yuan Ye, an official from the China National Planning Commission who made a speech at the inauguration, the significance of the project lies in integration of multimedia information technology into the industry of goods distribution in China. He believed that the new centre will serve as a model and assist e-commerce development in the country.
Guo Limin, deputy chief of the SZ Planning Bureau, said that the logistics industry has been designed to become one of the three mainstay industries of the city in the future. He expressed the hope that the new centre will be able to contribute to building the city into a regional logistics centre.
A source disclosed that, based on this new centre, a chain of computerized logistics centres will be set up across the country.
