Suspected bombers confesses
|
THE man suspected of being behind a series of deadly explosions that killed 108 people within one hour in North China's Shijiazhuang City was motivated by hatred for his family and neighbours, it has emerged.
Xinhua News Agency said yesterday that grudges against his neighbour, his ex-wife, ex-mother-in-law and a lover prompted Jin Ruchao, a 41-year-old deaf man, to blast four dormitory buildings on March 16.
Jin, who was sentenced to a 10-year imprisonment in 1988 for raping, was nabbed by police on Friday in South China's Beihai City near the Vietnamese border following the biggest nationwide manhunt in the country for nearly 20 years in which a bounty of 150,000 yuan (US$18,100) was put on his head.
Soon after his arrest, Jin confessed to planting four bombs that rocked the capital city of Hebei Province.
Police found that Jin used to live in the flattened building owned by the No 3 Cotton Mill, and was on bad terms with a family of the same building following a dispute over property.
Before the explosions, Jin had threatened on several occasions to kill the family by blowing up the building.
Jin had also fallen out with his stepmother, whose apartment was destroyed in the blast, as was the home of his ex-wife Shang Meilan and her husband, it said.
A two-storey building also destroyed in the blasts had previously been owned by Jin's mother but was sold by his sister.
Jin was very unhappy about the sale of his mother's home as he was given only 10,000 yuan from the proceeds.
His sister told police that Jin had always been fascinated with dynamite and had first started making explosives in 1988.
When Jin was captured on Friday morning in Beihai, a port city in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, police discovered in his bag some dynamite and the ID card of his girl friend Wei Zhihua, who was allegedly killed by him on March 9 for leaving Jin after taking away 600 yuan from him.
CCTV footage on Friday showed Jin looking relaxed and smiling in a grey shirt and brown trousers as police in camouflage uniforms bundled him into a car in Beihai.
Jin later confessed to police how he bought the dynamite and smuggled it to Shijiazhuang after he killed his girl friend, and also how he planned and went about blowing up the buildings.
Judging from what Jin has confessed and the evidence the police collected at the blast sites, the police said, it can be concluded that Jin is totally responsible for the fatal explosions.
Jin is currently under further interrogation.(SD News)
