Tuberculosis prevalent
|
MARCH 25 is the World Tuberculosis Day. Health authorities of Guangdong declared on the same day that more than 18 million people in the province have been infected by the tuberculosis virus and two thirds of the people carrying the virus are young and middle-aged.
According to health experts, the disease has become a major public health concern, and attacks mainly poorer people.
Assisted by the World Bank, Guangdong has spent 160 million yuan (US$19.4 million) to curb the disease over the past ten years.
