From Here to Eternity
Starring: Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, Frank Sinatra
Synopsis: The captivating portrait of army life is adapted from James Jones' best-selling novel.
It's prewar 1941 in Hawaii. Robert E Lee Prewitt requests Army transfer and ends up at Schofield in Hawaii. His new captain, Dana Holmes, has heard of his boxing prowess (高超的本领) and is keen to get him to represent the company. However, Prewitt refuses to box anymore -- some boxing tragedy in the past is haunting him -- so he is sent to the remote outpost as punishment for his insubordination (违抗命令) by Holmes, who thinks a boxing win will get him promoted.
Boxing is pretty much all Holmes cares about -- he leaves the running of his company to Sergeant Milton Warden. The neglectful Holmes also ignores his wife, Karen, who is seeking external relief from a troubled marriage. And Warden starts taking care of her needs, too.
Meanwhile Prewitt begins falling in love with social club employee Lorene. Unbeknown (不为人所知的) to anyone, the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbour looms (隐约出现) in the distance.
