Members offer flood of motions

Song Yingwen
EVERY reporter who inquired into the number of proposals at the CPPCC Hall was kindly reminded by the working staff: "Please note that this is just the latest figure. It might be quite different from the final figure."
This is perhaps an understatement: motions come in one after another incessantly. The total number of motions received by the conference committee was 365 at 3.25pm and jumped to 379 within 20 minutes.
The staff at the inquiry desk said that the situation had been going on like this for days. "In the first two days of the conference, only 185 proposals were received by us. As you can tell from the computer, the figure increased greatly," one staffer said. "And more motions are expected to come in the coming days," he added.
Over half the motions were made on issues in the economic sector. Education and culture accounted for around 30 per cent of the total proposals. The rest covered diverse topics, ranging from government management to personnel issues.
By 3.55pm yesterday, five minutes before the deadline for proposals, 390 motions were put forward by local CPPCC committee members.
