New leaders chosen
|
THE 14 deputy directors of departments under the Guangdong Provincial Government, having been elected publicly, on Tuesday began a 10-day period of work under public supervision, after which they will formally take their posts.
A total of 846 registered for the election and 754 qualified candidates took the written test. Five candidates were chosen for each vacant post according to their performance in the written test as well a second-round interview.
The Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC sent 14 inspection teams to check the background of the 70 candidates. Public polls have also been used as a criterion in the process.
Among the 14 successful candidates, Yu Min and Peng Haibin come from Shenzhen, and are expected to serve respectively as deputy directors of the Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and the Industry and Commerce Bureau.
Aged 37 on average, the new officials will be formally appointed upon successful completion of a one-year period of probation for five year terms.
Those who were not appointed still have a chance to compete for posts at the municipal and county levels, according to the CPC committee. The recent election is viewed as a good beginning in reforming the leader-selection process.
