THE Second Session of the SZ Committee of the Third Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) wrapped up yesterday, but not before it put forward 624 pieces of policy advice concerning all important aspects of social and economic development in Shenzhen.
The policy proposals will be passed on to all government departments and agencies concerned within the next week.
Local CPPCC committee members were divided into six commissions to deliberate policy advice. One new commission at this session was devoted to the discussion of population, environment and sustainable development in Shenzhen.
Director of the commission Wang Faxiang said that systematic planning is required to develop appropriate policies with regard to population control, resource conservation and sustainable development, not merely tree planting, sewage plants and technology deployment.
Secretary of the CPC SZ Committee Zhang Gaoli said that the CPPCC Shenzhen Committee has been playing an important role in democratic supervision, involving people from all walks of life in government administration and providing advice and suggestion to the government.
He urged members to make greater contributions to local economic development. He also made an appeal to members from Hong Kong and Macao to promote co-operation between SZ and the two cities.
He said the city's economic growth in the first quarter of this year is expected to be 10.6 per cent above the corresponding period last year. The city aims to achieve a 12-per cent growth rate this year.
It was also announced at the session that Li Ronggen has resigned as chairman of the CPPCC SZ committee and now serves as vice-governor of Guangdong Province.
